MANILA – Letran ended a three-game slump with a 20-25, 25-21, 26-24, 25-19 victory over Lyceum of the Philippines University in the V-League Women’s Collegiate Challenge at Paco Arena in Manila on Sunday.

Gia Marcel Maquilang finished with 18 points, including two blocks, while Sheena Vanessa Sarie contributed 15 points on 13 attacks and two aces for the Lady Knights, who improved to 2-3.

Verenicce Colendra added 12 points while Angelique Ledesma had 11 points, including four blocks, as Letran gained a share of fifth with College of Saint Benilde.

“We’re still catching up. The rookies are still adjusting, finding the right cohesiveness and connection,” Letran coach Oliver Almadro said.

“Good thing we have (the V-League) so we can play competitively. What’s important is we can see what we need to improve. We need maturity, we need cohesiveness, we need more grit, that no matter what happens, we continue to fight."

Joan Dogana finished with 13 points on 11 attacks and three aces for Lyceum, which has yet to win in five matches.

Johna Dolorito scored 11 points, Hiromi Osada had nine points and Janeth Tulang added seven points, including three blocks.

The Lady Pirates moved to within 15-16 in the fourth set but the Lady Knights fought back to keep the set and claim victory after 63 minutes.

Lyceum and St. Benilde will part ways on Sept. 11 after their 5 p.m. duel. (PNA)
