MANILA – Asenso Manileño, Manila's dominant local political party, unveiled its official slate for the May 2025 elections during a convention at the San Andres Sports Complex in Malate on Friday afternoon.
The party is fielding reelectionist and party president Mayor Honey Lacuna and Vice Mayor Yul Servo.
Former mayor Isko Moreno will reportedly clash with Lacuna, whose father, former Manila vice mayor Danilo Lacuna, mentored him.
Moreno served for just one term before losing in the 2022 presidential elections.
Also introduced were Asenso Manileño’s candidates for the six congressional districts and 36 seats in the city council.
Manny Lopez will run for congressman in the First District, currently represented by Ernesto Dionisio Jr.
The son of the late Manila mayor Mel Lopez previously served as the district's representative from 2016 to 2022.
Lopez joins five of the current six Manila representatives, who all chair committees in the House of Representatives -- 2nd District Rep. Rolando Valeriano, Committee on Metro Manila Development; 3rd District Rep. Joel Chua, Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability; Dr. Giselle Maceda for the 4th District (currently occupied by her husband, Rep. Edward Maceda, Committee on Revision of Laws); 5th District Rep. Irwin Tieng, Committee on Banks and Financial Intermediaries; and 6th District Rep. Benny Abante, Committee on Human Rights.
In the city council, the Asenso Manileño bloc currently holds the majority, with 20 of 36 councilors. (PNA)
