MANILA – All is set for the staging of the inaugural Alabang Muntinlupa Bowlers Association (AMBA) - Claudius Peters Open Championships scheduled to be held at the Paeng's Freedom Bowl inside Robinson's Imus in Cavite on Oct. 12-20.

A total of 260 players, including members of the national team, will see action in the tournament featuring Open Masters, Associate, Men's Senior, Ladies, Youth (Under 22), and Rising Stars divisions.

The Open Masters champion will get PHP70,000, while the winners in the Associate and Men's Seniors divisions will receive PHP50,000 each.

Champions in the Ladies, Youth, and Rising Stars division will take home PHP30,000 each.

The first player to score a perfect game will win a roundtrip ticket to Hong Kong.

"Bowlers all over the Philippines are joining, so this tournament is also an opportunity for us to discover potential talents," AMBA president Red Collantes said during the Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports, Inc. (TOPS) “Usapang Sports” at the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Conference Room inside the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex in Manila on Thursday.

The tournament was supposed to be held at the Festival Mall in Alabang but the venue is not yet available.

Collantes said PSC Commissioner Olivia "Bong" Coo is the guest speaker during the opening ceremony.

Coo, a four-time world champion and World Bowling Hall of Fame member, will also be honored for her achievements, along with other national bowlers.

Joining Collantes in the weekly session were national team member Lara Posadas-Wong and tournament director Jomin Wong.

"We want to build a program for kids as young as five years old," said Posadas-Wong, who recently bagged the silver medal in the singles event at the 27th Asian Bowling Championships in Thailand. (PNA)
