PH netter Alcantara bows out of Thailand tournament semis

MANILA, Aug. 10 -- Filipino Francis Casey Alcantara and Japanese Yuichi Ito have failed to reach the men's doubles semifinals of the USD15,000 PTT-LTAT Academy Men's Circuit 2 in Nonthaburi, Thailand.

According to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) Pro Circuit website, the top-ranked pair of Alcantara and Ito bowed to the Japanese tandem of Renta Tokuda and Jumpei Yamasaki, 4-6, 4-6, in their quarterfinal match at the National Tennis Center outdoor hard court on Wednesday.

Tokuda and Yamasaki will be up against compatriots, Sora Fukuda and Sho Katayama, who scored a 6-4, 6-4 victory over Taiwanese pair, Jui-Chen Hung and Wei-De Lin.

Second seed Justin Barki of India and Kittiphong Wachiramanowong of Thailand won by default over Taiwanese tandem, Tung-Lin Wu and Cheng-Yu Yu, to arrange a semifinal showdown with Italian Lorenzo Frigerio and German Sami Reinwein.

Frigerio and Reinwein won their quarterfinal match over third seeds Nam Hoang Ly and Thein Nguyen Hoang of Vietnam, 7-6 (5), 3-6, [10-8]. Meanwhile, top seed Frigerio defeated American qualifier Ronnie Schneider, 7-6 (6), 6-4 to forge a quarterfinal duel with Taiwanese Kuan-Yi Lee.

Lee was leading 2-2 in the first set when his opponent, compatriot and seventh seed Cheng-Yu Yu retired.

Also booking quarterfinal berths were Japanese Sho Katayama and Soichiro Moritani, Thai Pruchya Isaro, Taiwanese Chien Hsun Lo, Indian Karunuday Singh and Australian Jacob Grills. (PNA)
