PH women’s basketball team aims for gold in SEAG

MANILA, Aug. 12- In a show of dedication,  hard work and  optimism, members of the Philippine women’s basketball team on Saturday expressed that they have a huge chance to win the gold in the 29th edition of the Southeast Asian Games (SEAG) in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Guard-forward Raiza Rose Dy  told Philippine News Agency that  their team was more intact this year compared in the last SEAG which they finished fourth among 10 other ASEAN teams.

Dy, a graduate  of Far Eastern University in 2011, said their team’s campaign for the elusive gold was  boosted with their sterling accomplishments in span of two years which included – title holder  in the 2016 Southeast Asian Basketball Association (SEABA) tournament and reached Level 1 in the FIBA.

“Our fourth place in 2015 Singapore games made us  worked harder, we sacrificed a lot and we proved it  by winning the SEABA crown (2016),” said the amiable Dy, a mother of two lovely daughters, who is dedicating this SEAG campaign to them and to the millions of Filipinos as well.

“Malaki ang expectation ng management at team naming ngayon. They expect us to win the gold,” said Dy adding that the team’s strength was in defense but  quick  to say “ hindi kami papahuli sa offense”.

She said teams from Indonesia, Thailand and host Malaysia weere their tormentors.

The  other members of the team are  Aracelie Abaca, Analyn Almazan, Jack Danielle Animan,Afril Bernardino, France Mae Cabinbin, Claire Castro, Allana May Lim,Janine Pontejos,Cindy Resultay, Camile Samble and Marizze Andrea Mae Tongco.

Action begins on Aug. 20, with Philippines going  against Singapore at the Malaysia Basketball Association Arena. (PNA)
