PANABO CITY -- Former Mindanao Professional Boxing Association (MINPROBA) champions Glenn “The Rock” Porras and Dindong “The Fantasy Warrior” Quinones made their weights Thursday for their much-awaited championship fight on Friday, September 15, at the Antonio R. Floirendo Gym, this city.

Porras, former MINPROBA bantamweight champion, and Quinones, a former super flyweight title-holder, both tipped the scales at 121 lbs.

They will be fighting for the vacant MINPROBA super bantamweight title, according to MINPROBA supervisor Lito delos Reyes.

“Sa tingin ko kaya ko siyang ma-knockout (I think I can knock him out),” said Porras (29W-6L-0D, 17 KOs), who is also a former WBO Asia Pacific Youth and Philippine bantamweight champion.

Quinones, on the other hand, said he is ready to fight Porras, who is now under the MB Northstar Boxing Promotion based in Panabo City.

“Naka-ensayo pud ko aning laban kay Porras (I have already trained for this fight with Porras),” said Quinones (6W-18L-1D, 4 KOs), a native of General Santos City.

The Porras-Quinones title-fight is the main event of “The Redemption: Clash of Champions” boxing presentation of the MB Northstar Boxing Promotions. Engr. Jilson Basang is the promoter while Engr. Ricardo “Bong” Javier is the matchmaker.

Meanwhile, Michael “Chieftain” Bravo also of MB Northstar submitted 114 lbs. while his opponent Armando Yee of Gensan had 115 lbs. for their battle for the vacant MinPROBA super flyweight crown.

“Maski wala ko kabalo sa style ni Yee pero akong paningkamutan na mudaog ug knockout (Although I don’t know the style of Yee I will try to win by knockout),” said Bravo (11W-1L-0D, 4 KOs).

Yee (2W-10L-4D, 1 KO) is a substitute of Bravo’s original opponent Michael Camelion (8W-6L-1D), who got injured in training.

The other exciting fight to watch is the non-title fight between Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) lightweight champion Rosekie “Kapre” Cristobal (13W-2L-0D-10 KOs) of MB Northstar against Jovany Rota (9W-11L-0D-6KOs) of Bukidnon.

“Kailangan nako na mudaug by knockout para sa akong preparasyon sa akong depensa (I need to win by knockout for my preparation of the defense),” said Cristobal.

To be featured in the curtain raisers is the dual encounter for six pairs between Barangay Una amateur boxing team of Panabo City against the visiting Ring War of Gen. Santos City.

The official weigh-in was also supervised by the Games and Amusements Board (GAB) OIC Arlene Olondrez and Administrative Officer Datu Fahd Sinsuat.

Also present was Panabo City Administrator Jamail Lunar Macla and JP Laurel Barangay Captain Richard Ocay. “Part of the proceeds will go to the projects of Barangay JP Laurel,” said Basang.

The event is supported by Rep. Antonio “TonyBoy” Floirendo, Panabo City Mayor Engr. James Gamao, Panabo City Government, JBRJ Construction, PS Solutions of Ralph Peterson, Globe and Nature’s Spring Water.

“The event will be shown live on Facebook of the Panabo City Information Office,” said Basang. (Lito delos Reyes/PNA)
