MANILA -- Local carriers are now requiring Davao-bound passengers to present a negative coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19) RT-PCR (reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction) test result taken within 48 hours before their flights.

"It was the Davao LGU (local government unit) who required this to all Davao-bound passengers. This is applicable for flights starting July 20," said AirAsia Philippines head of Communications, David de Castro, in a text message to the Philippine News Agency.

He said that as soon as AirAsia got the information from the LGU, the carrier immediately informed all their passengers.

Philippine Airlines spokesperson Cielo Villaluna also confirmed this requirement.

"The (test) result should be one that was released 48 hours before the Davao-bound flight," she said.

Cebu Pacific also announced on Monday that it would not accept passengers without the Covid-19 test result.

"Guests without the swab test will not be allowed to board the flight," it noted in an advisory.

It also encouraged its passengers to check the email addresses and contact numbers they provided upon booking for updates on their flights. (PNA
