DAVAO CITY – Davao del Norte Governor Edwin Jubahib called on members of the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) or provincial council Wednesday to investigate the recent spate of killings in Tagum City even as he expressed concern over the safety of residents.

“I am urging the SP led by Vice-Governor De Carlo Uy to promptly investigate these heinous crimes, identify the root causes of this violence, and develop effective solutions to restore peace in the area,” he said in a statement.

Jubahib pointed out that the series of killings included the tragic deaths of two young female residents -- 18-year-old Nike Andyriana Kasim and a nine-year-old.

On April 25, the lifeless body of Kasim was discovered in Purok Pine Tree, Barangay Magugpo North after being reported missing for three days.

On April 20, the decomposing body of the 9-year-old girl was found in a grassy area in Barangay Apokon after a four-day search for her whereabouts.

“I am deeply alarmed and disturbed by the recent spate of senseless killings in Tagum City. The cold-blooded murders of our fellow Dabaonon, especially young women, have left the entire province in a state of shock and mourning,” Jubahib said.

Jubahib said the SP, as the provincial legislative body, has the authority and responsibility to address such pressing issues.

He also urged the SP to coordinate with the Philippine National Police, the Tagum City local government unit and other concerned agencies to ensure a comprehensive investigation of the incidents. (PNA)
