MANILA – President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. arrived in Brunei Darussalam on Tuesday for a two-day state visit.

The airplane carrying the President and First Lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, along with the official delegation, arrived at the capital city of Bandar Seri Begawan at 10:01 a.m., the Presidential Communications Office (PCO) said in a news release.

Marcos was warmly welcomed by Bruneian officials, it added.

According to the PCO, the President will have a general audience with His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah Yang Di-Pertuan.

Marcos will also meet with the Filipino community in Brunei at the BRIDEX International Convention Center.

Brunei is home to about 25,000 Filipinos.

In his departure speech Tuesday morning, Marcos said he would discuss defense and regional security with Sultan Bolkiah during their bilateral meeting, adding that they would “explore mutually beneficial partnerships and collaborations."

He also said that an agreement on tourism cooperation would be signed between the two countries.

Marcos' visit marks 40 years of bilateral relations between the Philippines and Brunei Darussalam. (PNA)
