BUTUAN CITY – Dinagat Islands Gov. Nilo Demerey Jr. has issued an order enlisting local government units (LGUs), provincial government-line agencies, and the public to address dengue cases in the province.

“The Provincial Health Office reported 361 dengue cases in Dinagat Islands from January to August 2024,” Demerey said in an executive order issued on Tuesday, a copy of which the Philippine News Agency obtained on Thursday.

The order mandated the provincial government and government hospitals to procure medical kits needed for free testing, admit residents with suspected dengue cases, intensify campaigns, and monitor dengue cases.

Demerey called on all sectors to join cleanup drives in premises that could be breeding grounds for dengue mosquitoes.

To protect the school children, cleanup drives must also be conducted inside the school premises to eliminate mosquito breeding grounds.

Information drives are also ordered among teachers, parents, and students on the early symptoms of dengue.

The Department of Health in the Caraga Region said 7,122 dengue cases were recorded in the area from January to Aug. 17 this year.

The number is 144 percent higher compared to the reported cases in the same period in 2023. (PNA)
