MANILA – A total of 33 workers affected by the ban on Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) found new jobs during the one-day special job fair held by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in the cities of Parañaque and Makati on Thursday.
Preliminary data released by DOLE on Friday showed these applicants were hired on the spot (HOTS) by participating employers.
A total of 340 POGO workers registered to participate in the special job fairs.
At the same time, 186 other jobseekers secured employment during the simultaneous job fairs.
The DOLE noted that 1,062 registered jobseekers flocked to the two job fair sites.
Those HOTS were jobs as a barista, sales consultant, cashier, data encoder, sales associate, housekeeping, service crew, kitchen staff, and driver.
The department also reported 145 near hires, or those considered hired but may need to submit additional requirements or documents, or must undergo further tests or interviews.
A total of 108 employers offering 13,744 employment opportunities participated in the job fairs.
The DOLE organized the event for would-be displaced POGO workers after President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. announced a total ban on POGOs in the country. (PNA)
