DAVAO CITY - The Davao City Coronavirus Disease 2019 (Covid-19) Task Force - Vaccination Cluster Team (VCT) will pilot the vaccination rollout for the pediatric group aged 5 to 11 years old on February 7.

In a statement Thursday, Dr. Michelle Schlosser, spokesperson of the task force, said they chose the hospitals as the venue for the pilot rollout to ensure that medical care is readily available.

“Once there are glitches, we can manage it right away. Once everything is okay, we will then cascade it to our typical vaccination hubs,” she said.

Schlosser said they are considering having a separate lane for the youngest age group to ensure that the vaccines do not mix with those administered on other category groups.

Schlosser clarified that the 5- to 11-year-old children’s vaccine dosage is 0.2ml, lower than the standard dosage of 0.3ml for other population age groups.

She added that a different type of syringe, which is safer for the youngest age group population, will also be used.

“We will create a good environment for the children that will not threaten them otherwise they will back out. The VCT will be working with Davao City’s public and private pediatricians to properly roll out the vaccination,” she added.

In an interview, Sixta Solingan, a grandparent of an 11-year-old child, expressed joy upon hearing that vaccines will be made available to the younger group.

Expressing slight reluctance, however, Solingan said she will wait for others to get their vaccines first before submitting her grandchild for vaccination.

“Honestly, I am afraid. But if it goes well for others then I will send her to the vaccination hub,” she said in the vernacular. (PNA)
